Mount Albo
Mount Albo is a limestone massif located in central eastern Sardinia in the province of Nuoro that stretches from Siniscola to Lula, and the central section of the NE slope belongs to the municipality of Lodè.
The highest points are punta Catirina and punta Turuddò although there are many peaks above 1000 m:
punta Ferulargiu, 1057 m;
punta Romasinu 1055 m;
punta Su Mutrucone, 1050 m;
punta Gurturgius, 1042 m;
punta Cupetti, 1029 m.
In the Sant’Anna di Lodè-Lula section there are holm oak groves and an area of reforestation pine forest, while on the rocky peaks characteristic for their snow-white color there are mainly evergreen essences.
Karst phenomena occur in this area with chasms, tunnels and fractures in the rock often traversed by streams that form underground lakes and numerous caves that are not vast and deep but of great scientific interest.
The golden eagle, mouflon, wild boar and Sardinian goshawk find refuge on Mount Albo.
The mountain has become an increasingly visited destination for hikers as from the top one can admire the striking views of the Baronie, northern Barbagia as well as the sea on the east coast and the island of Tavolara.
Also a destination for tourists and visitors are the springs located along Provincial Road 3: the Sa Mela Fountain, the Fonte ‘e Talisi near the Cantoniera Guzzurra and, a little further on, direction of Lula, the Fontana Mariane Jana.
